India Rejects Pakistan’s Allegation of Delayed Overflight Clearance for Sri Lanka Relief Mission

Published on

India strongly dismissed Pakistan’s accusation that New Delhi had held up overflight clearance for a Pakistani relief aircraft heading to Sri Lanka. The Ministry of External Affairs said the claim of a “60-hour delay” was completely false and an attempt to circulate misleading propaganda. Officials clarified that India cleared the request within a few hours on the very same day.

The relief aircraft was being sent after Sri Lanka suffered large-scale destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

India Rejects Pakistan’s Claim: Clarifying the Overflight Clearance Facts

India described the allegation as baseless and said the narrative being pushed by the Pakistan Foreign Office was part of a broader pattern of anti-India misinformation.
Pakistan had alleged:

  • The special aircraft carrying aid for Sri Lanka remained stuck for 60 hours
  • India had become an “obstacle” in humanitarian assistance
  • Overflight permission had still not been granted

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed these claims and clarified the exact timeline.

How India Responded to the Allegation on Overflight Clearance

The MEA issued a detailed statement explaining that the request was handled swiftly because it involved humanitarian supplies. According to the ministry:

  • The overflight request was received at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad around 1300 hrs on December 01, 2025
  • The proposal was immediately processed
  • Permission was granted the same day at 1730 hrs, following the itinerary submitted by Pakistan

India maintained that the facts clearly contradicted Pakistan’s version of events.

India Rejects Pakistan’s Claim While Reaffirming Support for Sri Lanka

New Delhi reiterated that it continues to support the people of Sri Lanka during the crisis caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The MEA emphasised that India has been extending assistance through multiple channels and remains committed to regional humanitarian cooperation.

The statement highlighted that India’s commitment to Sri Lanka stands firm regardless of political narratives created by neighbouring countries.

Sri Lanka’s Crisis After Cyclone Ditwah

Sri Lanka is currently tackling the severe aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused major destruction across several regions. Multiple countries have pledged support, and relief operations are underway.

India confirmed that it would continue to stand with Sri Lanka by providing assistance “through all available means”, reinforcing its role as a dependable regional partner.
