Mumbai Indians Confirm Rohit Sharma’s Future Amid Trade Rumours To KKR

Published on

The Mumbai Indians have officially responded to the growing rumours of Rohit Sharma being traded to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Social media buzzed all week with claims that the former MI captain might move to KKR, but the franchise seemingly dismissed the speculation with a clever post on social media.

MI wrote, “Sun will rise tomorrow again, ye toh confirm hai — but at (K)night… मुश्किल ही नहीं, नामुमकिन है!” The statement confirmed that Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians remains secure, ending the wave of uncertainty among fans.

Rohit Sharma’s Future With Mumbai Indians Is Secure

The witty social media post from MI hinted that the team has no plans to trade their long-time skipper. The confirmation came on the same day KKR appointed Abhishek Nayar as their new head coach. The timing sparked further discussions since Rohit and Nayar share a close personal and professional bond.

Nayar, who earlier served as India’s assistant coach, rejoined KKR this season and has now been promoted to the head coach role. Despite their friendship, Rohit’s association with MI appears to be continuing strong.

Rohit Sharma’s Journey With Mumbai Indians

Rohit joined the Mumbai Indians in the 2011 IPL mega auction and has remained one of the team’s core players. Over the years, he was retained before every major auction — in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2025 — proving his immense value to the franchise.

He took over as captain midway through IPL 2013 and immediately led MI to their first-ever title. Under his leadership, the team went on to win five IPL trophies — in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 — establishing MI as the most successful IPL team of the decade.

Captaincy Change Before IPL 2024

Following three underwhelming seasons, the Mumbai Indians management made a bold decision before IPL 2024, replacing Rohit with Hardik Pandya as captain. Pandya, who returned from Gujarat Titans via trade, now leads the side.

Although Rohit no longer captains the team, his legacy and presence continue to inspire both players and fans. With MI’s recent post, supporters can finally rest assured that Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians is still firmly intact.
