Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply as Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran, targeting military air bases and critical nuclear infrastructure. In one of the most significant escalations in recent years, the Israeli military confirmed it struck two major Iranian air bases — Hamadan and Tabriz — in western Iran, claiming to have dismantled the Tabriz base entirely.
Multiple Explosions Across Iranian Cities
Reports from Iranian state media indicated that air defense systems were activated in several cities, including Khorramabad, Kermanshah, and Tabriz. A large explosion was reported at a military base in Kermanshah, while footage from Tabriz showed plumes of black smoke rising from the targeted areas.
Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites
In a major development, Israeli strikes also targeted Iran’s key nuclear facilities at Esfahan and Natanz, resulting in significant damage. According to Reuters, a senior Israeli military official said nine top Iranian nuclear scientists were killed, and the damage would take weeks or more to repair.
The Israeli military claims to have hit over 150 targets across Iran using hundreds of precision munitions.
Official Statements & Rising Tensions
- Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, warned:
“Tehran will burn if Iran fires more missiles at Israel.” - In retaliation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to bring “Israel to ruin.”
- Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched dozens of missiles at Israel in response, with damage reported in Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv.
Impact on Diplomatic Talks
The dramatic escalation comes as Tehran and Washington were scheduled to hold a sixth round of nuclear negotiations in Oman this Sunday. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the fate of the meeting remains uncertain:
“It is still unclear what decision we will make for Sunday.”

With both nations exchanging heavy fire and targeting strategic infrastructure, global leaders are calling for restraint, fearing a broader regional conflict that could engulf multiple countries in the Middle East and affect international oil supplies and global security.
