DGCA Orders Extended Surveillance of Boeing 787 Fleet

Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu today announced that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed an extended surveillance of the 34 Boeing 787 aircraft currently in service within India’s aviation fleet. This decision follows the recent tragic air crash involving a Boeing 787.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Mr Naidu said that eight of the 34 aircraft have already undergone urgent inspections, and the process will continue with top priority.

High-Level Committee to Probe Crash

To ensure a comprehensive and transparent investigation, the Minister revealed that a high-level committee of experts from multiple sectors is being established.

  • The Union Home Secretary will chair the committee.
  • The panel will include aviation experts, safety regulators, and forensic analysts.

Black Box Recovered

Mr Naidu confirmed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has successfully recovered the black box from the crash site.

  • The data from the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder will provide vital clues about the final moments leading up to the crash.
  • The AAIB, which specializes in air accident investigations, was immediately mobilized after the incident.

The Minister detailed the on-ground efforts post-crash:

  • Response teams from multiple departments were deployed to extinguish fires and clear debris.
  • Bodies recovered from the site are being sent for hospital processing and DNA testing is underway to identify victims and hand over remains to their families.
