Junior Clerk Caught Taking ₹15,000 Bribe for Pension Arrears in Odisha’s Nandapur

JEYPORE: In a fresh Odisha vigilance bribery case, officials from the Vigilance Department arrested a junior clerk from the Nandapur block education office in Koraput district on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. The accused, Sambit Tripathy, was caught red-handed while taking the money from the wife of a deceased school teacher in exchange for releasing her pending pension arrears.

Tripathy was produced before the Jeypore Special Vigilance Court on Wednesday. According to vigilance sources, the teacher had passed away while in service on October 27, 2019. Although his wife was entitled to a pension, the revised arrears amounting to ₹4.5 lakh had not been processed.

Bribe Demand Triggers Odisha Vigilance Bribery Case Action

On July 11, the Education Department approved the pension-related documents and instructed the Nandapur block office to release the funds. However, Tripathy allegedly delayed the disbursal and demanded ₹30,000 as a bribe. With no other option, the woman lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Department.

A trap was set, and on Tuesday evening, Tripathy was caught accepting the first installment of ₹15,000 near the Semiliguda market. The vigilance team immediately apprehended him with the bribe money in hand.

Koraput Vigilance SP Rabindra Kumar Panda confirmed the arrest and said searches were conducted at Tripathy’s rented house in Semiliguda and his ancestral home in Berhampur. No unaccounted wealth was discovered during the raids.
