SAMBALPUR: Vigilance authorities launched a massive operation on Wednesday targeting Debasis Panda, principal scientific officer at the State Drugs Testing Laboratory, over allegations of possessing disproportionate assets (DA). The Debasis Panda vigilance raids were conducted across seven different locations in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Berhampur, following a warrant issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.
A large team comprising four DSPs, ten inspectors, four ASIs, and other support personnel carried out the coordinated searches. Properties under scrutiny include Panda’s rented duplex in Greater Sambalpur (near Bareipali), his office chamber in Kainsir, two flats in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli (Behera Sahi), another apartment in Balabhadrapur, a commercial unit in Nexus Esplanade Mall, and his ancestral home in Berhampur’s Nabhi Colony on Church Road.
Assets Under Scanner in Debasis Panda Vigilance Raids
During the ongoing Debasis Panda vigilance raids, the officer reportedly claimed that all his properties were acquired through legal means, specifically from proceeds gained after selling ancestral assets in 2016. Panda has assured the officials that he will present the necessary documents to justify the ownership and source of his wealth.
According to a senior vigilance officer, the raids are part of the state’s intensified drive against public servants suspected of accumulating illegal wealth. The search operation remains ongoing, and as of now, no formal case has been registered against Panda.
