At least eight people were rescued directly by fire service teams, while police shifted several others with minor injuries to nearby hospitals.
Why Sunki Ghati Remains a High Risk Zone
Sunki Ghati is known for its steep slopes and sharp turns, making it one of the most accident-prone stretches in the region. Heavy vehicles like buses face higher risks, especially if speed or visibility becomes an issue.
Experts say such accidents often result from a mix of terrain challenges, driver fatigue, and mechanical stress on vehicles navigating steep gradients.
What Happens Next After Koraput Bus Accident OSRTC
Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the accident. Investigations will likely examine driver condition, vehicle fitness, and road safety measures.
Details about the deceased and the condition of the injured are still awaited. Officials are expected to review safety protocols for long-distance buses operating in hilly areas.
This incident once again underscores the urgent need for stricter safety checks and better infrastructure in vulnerable routes across Odisha.
