NEW DELHI: The Litan violence Manipur situation remained tense on February 10, with reports of gunfire and fresh arson incidents emerging from the Litan area of Manipur’s Ukhrul district. Officials said the unrest entered its third consecutive day, prompting heightened security measures and additional force deployment to prevent further escalation.

Despite sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies to restore normalcy, the area continued to witness sporadic violence, keeping authorities on high alert.

Litan Violence Manipur Sees Fresh Gunfire and Arson

According to officials, Tuesday morning saw renewed reports of alleged gun firing and incidents of arson in and around Litan. Security forces intensified patrols and established additional checkpoints to contain the situation and prevent the spread of violence to nearby areas.

Authorities said the focus remains on maintaining law and order while ensuring civilian safety, as tensions between communities continue to simmer.

Deputy CM Leads Political Outreach to Restore Peace

On February 9, a delegation of legislators led by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho visited Litan to assess the ground situation. The team held separate meetings with leaders from both communities and appealed for calm and restraint.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured residents that those responsible for arson and violence would be identified and arrested. The delegation stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation to restore peace in the conflict-hit area.

Security Measures Intensified, Dialogue Initiated

BJP MLAs Govindas Konthoujam and Kh Ibomcha said multiple security measures had been put in place to stabilise the situation. They confirmed that additional forces were deployed and that continuous dialogue with community leaders was underway to prevent further violence.

Officials indicated that the administration is closely monitoring developments and will take strict action against any attempts to disrupt peace.

Incident Triggered by Alleged Altercation

According to preliminary reports, the violence was triggered by an alleged physical altercation between two intoxicated individuals from the Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities on Saturday night. The Tangkhul Naga individual was reportedly assaulted by a group allegedly belonging to the Kuki community, which later led to incidents of arson and widespread unrest starting Sunday night.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible, as efforts continue to bring the volatile situation under control.
