Lok Sabha Discusses Operation Sindoor: India’s Retaliation to Pahalgam Terror Attack

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Monday took up a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, India’s swift and strategic military response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The operation, lauded as strong and decisive, drew bipartisan attention, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh leading the address.

Operation Sindoor Discussion Highlights

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that India’s retaliation was focused and non-escalatory, aimed squarely at terror infrastructure in Pakistan. The Armed Forces destroyed nine terrorist camps, eliminating over 100 terrorists following the Pahalgam tragedy.

Singh affirmed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had contacted India and requested a cessation of hostilities, leading to a ceasefire agreement on May 12. He rejected any claims that India agreed under international pressure and stressed that any future provocation by Pakistan would result in the resumption of Operation Sindoor.

Armed Forces’ Bravery Praised in Operation Sindoor

During the discussion, Singh applauded the Armed Forces for their precision and the successful deployment of advanced air defense systems like S-400 and Akash missiles, which ensured that no major Indian assets were harmed during the exchange.

He condemned Pakistan’s persistent support for terrorism, labeling the country a “nursery of global terrorism” and accused its army and ISI of using terrorism as a proxy war strategy.

Opposition Raises Security and Diplomatic Concerns

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized the government’s handling of security in Jammu and Kashmir, questioning the failure to capture the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. He also raised doubts about the ceasefire timing and cited Pakistan’s international funding as a sign of diplomatic failure.

Echoing similar concerns, Samajwadi Party’s Ramashankar Rajbhar questioned why the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack were still at large, demanding answers on the region’s deteriorating security.

BJP and Allies Defend Operation, Slam Opposition

In response, BJP leaders including Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Baijayant Panda defended the operation and criticized the Congress for downplaying the Armed Forces’ efforts. They accused previous governments of failing to safeguard national interests and cited terror deaths under UPA rule to counter the opposition narrative.

Shambhavi, MP from Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), called the Pahalgam attack an assault on humanity, and described Operation Sindoor as a reflection of New India’s bold approach to counterterrorism.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized that Operation Sindoor was not just a military response but also a strategic effort to reshape global opinion on Pakistan’s cross-border terrorism. He said India had ensured the international community understood the gravity of the Pahalgam incident.

MPs from across the political spectrum, including Kalyan Banerjee (TMC), Lavu Sri Krishna (TDP), Avinash Reddy (YSRCP), and Deepender Singh Hooda (Congress) contributed to the ongoing debate. The discussion on Operation Sindoor continues to draw wide parliamentary attention.
