Madhuri Dixit Likely to Be Odisha’s First Handloom Brand Ambassador

BHUBANESWAR: Bollywood superstar Madhuri Dixit is likely to be named as the Madhuri Dixit handloom ambassador for Odisha, marking the first time the state has appointed a celebrity to represent and promote its handloom sector. According to sources, the official announcement is expected to be made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the National Handloom Day and EKTA (Exhibition-cum-Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage) celebration in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

Madhuri Dixit is also set to attend the National Handloom Day celebration as a special guest. The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department is behind this initiative, aiming to give Odisha’s weavers and textiles a wider national and international platform through her association.

Madhuri Dixit Handloom Ambassador Initiative

As part of the Madhuri Dixit handloom ambassador initiative, the state government will host a mega handloom and handicraft exhibition at Janata Maidan from August 7 to 13. The event, inaugurated by CM Majhi, will display Odisha’s rich weaving legacy and artisanal excellence.

Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta announced that over 1,500 weavers from Odisha and eight other states will participate. The programme will also include seven knowledge-sharing sessions, live weaving demonstrations, and exhibitions of traditional crafts, aiming to uplift and celebrate the handloom community.
