Eight Fertiliser Outlets in Bargarh Lose Licences Over Overpricing Violations

Published on

BARGARH: The Agriculture Department has taken strict action in response to the growing complaints of Bargarh fertiliser overpricing, cancelling the licences of eight retail outlets found guilty of flouting government norms on the sale of fertilisers and pesticides.

Following a series of surprise inspections across the district, authorities revoked the licences of seven fertiliser dealers and one pesticide retailer. Officials reported that several outlets were charging well above the fixed prices, exploiting farmers in the process.

Bargarh Fertiliser Overpricing Crackdown Targets Black Marketing

Under the Fertiliser Control Order, only authorised retailers, wholesalers, and cooperative societies are permitted to sell fertilisers at regulated rates. However, during the inspections, officials discovered urea (MRP ₹266.50 for 45 kg) being sold at ₹350, and DAP (MRP ₹1,350 for 50 kg) being priced as high as ₹1,600. Pesticides were also being sold at arbitrary and inflated rates.

A senior agriculture official confirmed that the Bargarh fertiliser overpricing issue was taken seriously. “We have taken action against violators, and further inspections will continue to prevent black marketing and protect farmers’ interests,” the officer said.

The outlets penalised include:

  • Sahu Pesticides, Adgaon
  • SS Traders, Chakarkend
  • Godavarti Srinibas Rao Fertilisers, Nuniapali
  • Saurabh Traders, Jamurda
  • Krushak Seba Kendra, Mithapali (Paikmal block)
  • Pradhan Agro Service, Mandosil
  • Pradhan Fertiliser, Gaisilet block
  • Paras Traders, Bargarh town
