Monsoon Session of Parliament 2025 to Begin on July 21

Published on

New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament will run from July 21 to August 21, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed on Wednesday, following presidential approval. While earlier announcements suggested an end date of August 12, the revised schedule includes four additional sittings from August 18 to 21.

There will be no sittings on August 13 and 14 in view of the Independence Day celebrations.

Though the official agenda is yet to be released, insiders suggest the session could witness heated debates on several sensitive topics, including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and potentially an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court.

The government had previously rejected the Opposition’s demand—led by the I.N.D.I.A. alliance—for a special session focused solely on national security developments. Instead, it has now extended the regular Monsoon Session to address these and other matters.

The session is expected to span 21 sittings, and will likely see the government highlighting the Caste Census announcement, a move that carries significant political weight with Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon.

Additionally, the Election Commission’s move to launch a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar could further intensify parliamentary discourse.

The session dates were first proposed on June 4 by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
