India’s representative at the 72nd Miss World pageant, Nandini Gupta, was eliminated before reaching the top 8, ending the country’s hopes of clinching the prestigious crown. The event took place on Saturday in Hyderabad.
Had she won, Gupta would have become the seventh Indian to claim the Miss World title. The last Indian winner was Manushi Chhillar in 2017.
India’s first Miss World was Reita Faria, who made history in 1966 as the first Asian to win the crown. Other Indian winners include Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), and Priyanka Chopra (2000).
