NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a 100-week nationwide campaign aimed at combating substance abuse through public participation. Addressing the launch via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said a Viksit Bharat can only be achieved with a healthy, confident and empowered young population that remains free from drug addiction.

He called upon citizens, educational institutions and community organisations to actively participate in the campaign and help create a drug-free society.

Launching the campaign, Modi said tackling substance abuse requires collective action from society alongside government initiatives.

He highlighted the role of yoga, meditation, rehabilitation centres and community support in helping people overcome addiction and stressed that preventing young people from falling into drug abuse should remain a national priority.

The Prime Minister also said that those already affected by addiction should receive compassion, guidance and timely support rather than social stigma.

PM Modi Urges Families and Educational Institutions to Act

Modi appealed to families not to conceal cases of substance abuse due to social pressure and instead seek professional medical help at the earliest opportunity.

He also encouraged parents to maintain open communication with children so that concerns can be addressed before they drift towards addiction.

Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan to Run for 100 Weeks

The campaign marks the beginning of a 100-week Jan Bhagidari initiative, under which awareness programmes will be organised every Sunday across the country.

According to the government, the campaign will include:

Sports events
Walkathons
Meditation sessions
Cultural programmes
Street plays
Awareness drives
Art competitions
Community outreach activities
Discussion forums

The initiative also aims to bring together educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, industry bodies and spiritual organisations to create a sustained nationwide movement against substance abuse and encourage young people to become ambassadors of positive social change.
