Haridwar: The Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 campaign concluded after mobilising more than 1.31 crore citizens across the country through awareness programmes, community outreach and public participation against substance abuse. Organised by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the nationwide initiative was observed from June 17 to June 26 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The concluding National Awareness Programme was held at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (DSVV) in Haridwar, where Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar led the event alongside government officials, volunteers, educational institutions and civil society organisations.
Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 Focuses on Community Participation
One of the major highlights of the campaign was the Nasha Mukt Rally in Haridwar, which witnessed participation from nearly 4,000 citizens. During the concluding event, the Union Minister administered the Pledge Against Drug Abuse and the Ageing with Dignity Pledge, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a healthier and more inclusive society.
Throughout the 10-day campaign, awareness activities were organised nationwide. These included seminars, webinars, street plays, rallies, yoga sessions, training programmes, signature campaigns, essay and painting competitions, slogan-writing contests, e-pledges and Nasha Mukti Mitra registration drives.
The broad range of activities was designed to engage students, youth organisations, educational institutions and community groups in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Why Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 Matters
The campaign reflects the government’s strategy of addressing substance abuse through both institutional action and community participation. Rather than relying solely on enforcement, the programme seeks to encourage prevention through education, awareness and social engagement.
The second-order impact of such initiatives could include stronger community networks, greater public awareness among young people and increased collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions and civil society organisations in tackling drug abuse.
The event also marked the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding between the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the All World Gayatri Pariwar under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY). The agreements aim to strengthen efforts in drug demand reduction, community mobilisation and the promotion of the “Ageing with Dignity” initiative for senior citizens.
During the concluding programme, the Ministry honoured states, Union Territories, districts, Nasha Mukti Mitras, grant-in-aid institutions and other stakeholders for their contribution to advancing the objectives of the campaign.
The successful completion of Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 reinforces the Centre’s long-term approach of combining government action with public participation to build a drug-free and healthier society under the vision of “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushhaal Bharat.”
