On his 79th birthday, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to Odisha and its people. The veteran leader declared that he would continue to serve the state “till the end of his life,” marking an emotional moment during the party’s Jana Samparka Padayatra in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Speaking at Ganganagar Adarsha Palli under the Ekamra-Bhubaneswar Assembly constituency, Naveen expressed gratitude for the warm wishes from the people and party workers. “I am always with you and will remain so. I will continue to serve Mother Odisha till the end of my life,” he said, drawing loud applause from the gathered crowd.

The BJD supremo’s declaration that he will serve Odisha and its people for life resonated deeply among supporters. During the Jana Samparka Padayatra, Naveen urged party leaders and workers to stay dedicated to public service. “Serving the people is the mantra of the BJD. Prominent BJD figures including senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra, Rajya Sabha MPs Debasis Samantaray and Sulata Deo, Opposition chief whip Pramila Mallik, and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das joined Naveen during the walk. The ongoing Jana Samparka Padayatra, which began on October 9, will continue till November 9, reinforcing the party’s outreach efforts at the grassroots level.
Naveen Patnaik’s Return to Public Life After Six Months
Thursday’s event marked Naveen Patnaik’s first public appearance in nearly six months. The former chief minister had been under medical care in Mumbai and Bhubaneswar, followed by a stay in New Delhi for recovery. His return to Odisha on October 10 was welcomed warmly by party workers and citizens alike, signaling renewed political engagement from the veteran leader.
Birthday Celebration with Children at SOS Village
Later in the day, Naveen visited SOS Village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar to celebrate his birthday with children. He cut a cake prepared by the kids and expressed joy at spending time with them. “I am very happy to celebrate my birthday with the children,” he said, reflecting his simple and compassionate personality that continues to inspire many across Odisha.
