NHAI Clarifies: No Toll Fee for Two Wheelers at National Highway Toll Plazas

Published on

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially dismissed the misinformation spreading across social media claiming that two-wheelers are being charged at toll plazas. NHAI clarified that no user fee is applicable for two-wheelers on National Highways and National Expressways anywhere in the country.

According to the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, there is no provision or proposal to impose toll fee on motorcycles or scooters. The clarification was issued after multiple reports on social platforms caused confusion among the public.

No Toll Fee for Two Wheelers at National Highway Toll Plazas

Under the 2008 rules, user fees are collected only from four-wheelers and above. This includes Cars, Jeeps, Vans, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), Mini Buses, Buses, Trucks, Heavy Construction Machinery (HCM), Earth Moving Equipment (EME), Multi Axle Vehicles (MAV) with three to six axles, and Oversized Vehicles with seven or more axles.

Two-wheelers remain exempt from this list, confirming that riders on motorcycles and scooters do not have to pay toll charges.

Government Rules on Toll Fee Collection Remain Unchanged

NHAI emphasized that toll charges are implemented strictly in accordance with the rules laid down under the National Highway Fee policy. Any news claiming toll fee on two-wheelers is therefore false and misleading. The exemption continues to apply to all national highways and expressways across India.

Public Advised Not to Believe Fake Social Media Posts

The authority has urged citizens to rely only on official announcements and notifications. Rumors about toll collection on two-wheelers are being widely circulated, but NHAI confirmed that they hold no truth. Awareness is crucial to prevent unnecessary panic or misinformation among commuters.

User Fee Clarification by NHAI for Road Users

The clarification aims to put an end to misleading reports and confirm the continued exemption for two-wheelers. All toll collections remain limited to the categories of vehicles mentioned under the 2008 rules, ensuring transparency and consistency in user fee application.
