Odisha Budget 2026-27 Date Announced: CM Majhi to Present Budget on February 20

CM Mohan Charan Majhi will present the Odisha Budget 2026-27 on Feb 20 as Assembly session begins Feb 17

KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • Odisha Assembly budget session runs from Feb 17 to April 8 (28 days).
  • CM Mohan Charan Majhi to table Odisha Budget 2026-27 on Feb 20.
  • MLA salary hike bills likely to be reconsidered during the session.

The Odisha budget 2026-27 date has been set for February 20, when Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will present the state’s financial plan in the Assembly. The budget session begins on February 17 and will continue for 28 days until April 8, according to the provisional calendar.

Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present his third budget since the BJP formed the government in June 2024.

Session Opens with Governor’s Address

The session will commence with the customary address by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, followed by a discussion on the motion of thanks.

General discussions on the budget are scheduled for February 23 and 24, after which the House will adjourn from February 25 to March 8.

Appropriation Bill on March 31

The Appropriation Bill is slated to be introduced and passed on March 31, formalising the government’s spending plans for the financial year.

Last year, Majhi had presented a ₹2.90 lakh crore budget for 2025-26 on February 17, 2025.

MLA Salary Hike Bills May Be Reviewed

A key political issue expected to resurface is the proposed salary hike for MLAs. In the previous session, the Assembly passed four bills increasing the pay of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Ministers, and MLAs.

However, following public criticism, both ruling BJP legislators and opposition BJD members urged a review. Sources indicate the Governor may return the bills for reconsideration, prompting fresh deliberations during this session.

A ruling party MLA said the government is reassessing the matter to balance public sentiment with adequate remuneration for legislators.

With fiscal planning and political recalibration on the agenda, the Odisha Assembly’s budget session is expected to be closely watched.
