Odisha CM Celebrates One Year of Governance with Promises to Empower Farmers

Published on

Balangir, Odisha: Marking one year of the BJP government in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the Krushak Shakti Samabesh in Balangir district on Tuesday, where he reiterated his government’s commitment to transforming the state’s agricultural sector. Speaking to a large gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized technological, financial, and infrastructural support to empower farmers.

“Triple-Engine Government”

Majhi noted that with two ministers from Balangir in his cabinet, the district now benefits from what he called a “triple-engine government” — a step beyond the commonly referred double-engine government model — promising threefold development momentum for the region.

Major Agricultural Achievements Shared

Highlighting key milestones, the Chief Minister shared that:

  • Over 78,000 agricultural machines have been distributed by May 2025.
  • Rs 459.68 crore in subsidies were transferred via DBT.
  • The government aims to irrigate 15 lakh hectares of unirrigated land within five years.

Majhi aligned these initiatives with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of honoring farmers as Annadata.

Financial Aid & Welfare Schemes

Under the CM Kisan Yojana, each farmer — including urban cultivators — receives Rs 4,000 in financial support. On Akshaya Tritiya, a total of Rs 1,025 crore was disbursed to over 50 lakh small and marginal farmers, including 2,381 PVTG and 25,532 urban farmers. Plans are underway to integrate this scheme with PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi for wider benefit.

Other highlighted programs:

  • Krushi Vidya Nidhi Yojana – Scholarships for farmers’ children.
  • Balabhadra Jaivik Chasa Mission – Promotion of organic farming.
  • Shree Anna Abhiyan – Revival of traditional grains and nutrition-focused agriculture.
  • Mandia millet ladoos being distributed to schoolchildren (nursery to Class 10) across government schools.

Majhi announced plans to open an agricultural college in Balangir and a fisheries college in Sonepur, aiming to boost agri-education and rural skill development.

“Prosperous Odisha by 2036”: CM’s Vision Aligned with India@2047

Concluding his address, CM Majhi laid out his government’s long-term roadmap, aiming for a “Prosperous Odisha by 2036” in line with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He stressed that agriculture and farmer-centric development will be central to achieving this target.

Cabinet Ministers Echo Support for Agriculture-First Development

  • Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo: Emphasized increased budget allocation for agriculture.
  • Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling: Highlighted the health benefits of local produce.
  • Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik: Stressed that agriculture is the backbone of Odisha’s economy.

The event also saw the felicitation of successful farmers, encouraging them to adopt modern technology for higher productivity.

Dignitaries in Attendance

Prominent attendees included:

  • Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit
  • Titilagarh MLA Nabin Kumar Jain
  • Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag
  • Northern Region Revenue Commissioner Sachin Ramachandra Yadav
  • Balangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo (Welcome Address)
