IMD Predicts Extremely Heavy Rainfall in Eastern States; Yellow Alert Issued for Delhi-NCR

Published on

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha today. The department has urged residents in these regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions against possible waterlogging and disruptions.

According to IMD, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and several northeastern states are also likely to witness heavy rainfall over the next 2 to 3 days. The wet spell is expected to help ease heatwave-like conditions in some parts.

A thundersquall warning has been issued for parts of Madhya Pradesh today. The department has cautioned that strong winds, lightning, and localized storms could impact normal activities, urging people to remain indoors during adverse weather conditions.

Delhi-NCR experienced showers on Tuesday evening, offering much-needed respite from the scorching summer heat. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in the region until Saturday, with a yellow alert in place for the next five days due to expected rainfall and thunderstorms. The showers are likely to bring down temperatures and improve air quality temporarily.
