Published on

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over the tragic road accident in Deoghar, Jharkhand, that claimed the lives of 18 Kanwariyas and left 10 others injured during the ongoing Shravani Mela.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CM Majhi offered his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

Prayers for Strength and Recovery

The accident occurred near Jamuniya village in Deoghar district, where a bus carrying devotees to Baba Baidyanath Dham collided with a truck transporting gas cylinders. The intense impact left many dead and others critically injured.

In his message, Majhi wrote:

“Deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Deoghar, Jharkhand, that claimed the lives of several Kanwariyas. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Baba Baidyanath grant strength to the grieving families and bless the injured with a swift recovery.”

Devotion Meets Tragedy During Shravani Mela

The Shravani Mela is one of the most spiritually significant periods in eastern India, drawing lakhs of devotees, especially Kanwariyas, who journey barefoot to offer sacred water to Lord Shiva at Baba Baidyanath Dham.

This year’s pilgrimage has been marred by this devastating mishap, sparking sorrow across multiple states, especially Odisha, where many pilgrims traditionally join the Kanwar Yatra.
