Odisha Cold Wave Alert: IMD Predicts Further Temperature Drop Across the State

Published on

A cold wave swept across Odisha on Wednesday, bringing biting winds and foggy mornings to several parts of the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), night temperatures are expected to dip further by 2–3°C over the next 24 hours, with no significant change anticipated afterward.

The cold spell has tightened its hold on western and northern districts including Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh, where temperatures have dropped sharply. Residents woke up to misty mornings and cold winds as winter conditions set in early this season.

Temperature Falls Below 10°C in Several Districts of Odisha

As per IMD data, Phulbani, Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Jharsuguda may record minimum temperatures close to 10°C, while Keonjhar and Angul are expected to see around 12°C. Districts like Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Bhadrak may hover near 13°C. The cold wave is expected to persist for a few more days as dry winds from the north continue to sweep across Odisha.

IMD Issues Odisha Cold Wave Advisory for Citizens

The IMD has issued an advisory urging residents, especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic health issues, to take precautions against the severe cold. The department has recommended using warm clothing, limiting early morning activities, and avoiding exposure to chilly winds.

Cold Spell to Continue Through the Weekend, Says IMD

Weather experts predict that the Odisha cold wave conditions will continue through the weekend if clear skies persist. Thursday night forecasts show Phulbani steady at 10°C, and Jharsuguda, Angul, and Rourkela dipping to around 11°C. With the cold likely to intensify, people across the state have begun preparing for a prolonged winter spell.
