Odisha Launches AWESOME App to Strengthen Anganwadi Monitoring and Malnutrition Fight

Bhubaneswar: Aiming to become a malnutrition-free state by 2036, the Odisha government on Wednesday launched a new mobile application called AWESOME – short for Anganwadi Welfare and Service Oversight Monitoring Everywhere. The app is designed to enhance real-time monitoring and service delivery at Anganwadi centres across the state.

The launch was part of a state-level capacity-building workshop attended by over 400 Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs).

Empowering Frontline Workers Key to Nutrition Drive

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida emphasized the pivotal role of CDPOs in grassroots transformation. “The strength of our child development efforts lies in empowering women, mothers, and community members. Our CDPOs are the real changemakers in achieving a malnutrition-free Odisha,” she stated.

Parida praised the success of the Subhadra scheme and advocated for stronger women-led development at the local level.

AWESOME App: A Digital Leap for Anganwadi Monitoring

The AWESOME app is a user-friendly digital platform aimed at:

• Monitoring infrastructure and hygiene of anganwadi centres
• Tracking delivery of key services like nutrition and pre-school education
• Collecting real-time data for informed decision-making

‘Aasa Jiba Anganwadi’ Campaign Launched

Alongside the app, the ‘Aasa Jiba Anganwadi’ (Let’s Visit Anganwadi) campaign was flagged off, to run from August 1 to 15. Citizens are encouraged to:

• Visit nearby anganwadi centres
• Assess cleanliness, infrastructure, and functionality
• Share feedback for improving service delivery

The campaign is aligned with World Breastfeeding Week (August 1–7) and promotes community ownership in early childhood care.

Institutional Support and Training Boost

Highlighting the state’s long-term vision, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said, “Health, nutrition, and early education form the foundation of Vision Odisha 2036. CDPOs must lead with people-centric strategies.”

A significant step toward this was the MoU signed between the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department and the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD). The agreement aims to provide continuous training and capacity building for ICDS staff in Odisha.

“This partnership will upgrade technical knowledge and professional skills of field workers,” said NIPCCD’s Additional Director Sanghamitra Barik.

Principal Secretary Shubha Sharma, Director Monisha Banerjee, and other senior officials from WCD were also present.
