Odisha police crime branch arrest Nigerian in cyber fraud case of Rs 28 Lakh

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha Police Crime Branch has arrested a Nigerian national from Delhi for allegedly duping a woman in Cuttack of Rs 28.67 lakh, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Patrick Chizorom Orajaka (35), son of Patrick Chidi Orajaka, AtUmuchu, Osogbo was arrested from a flat Mahavir Enclave in Delhi. He was later produced in a Delhi court and remanded to Odisha remand, a crime branch official said. who has been committing cyber frauds, was arrested by a team of CID CB from New Delhi and brought on transit remand to Odisha.

The Odisha crime branch had registered a case following a complaint by a woman. According to the official, the woman came in contact with the accused through Instagram. A Nigerian national pretended to be a gynecologist from the Netherlands and started chatting with the woman on Instagram.

She subsequently shared her Whatsapp number with him and continued chatting. A friendship developed between the two and after 5 days the accused told her that he was coming to India to meet her.

The very next day the complainant received a call and the caller identified herself as a customs official from Delhi airport and informed that her one relative who came to India to meet her was carrying 90,000 EURO with him, which was detained for carrying 90,000 Euros which was against the rule.

In order to release her boyfriend, the victim deposited the money in different accounts. As the money demand increased day by day, the victim realized that she had been cheated by a fraudster and reported the matter to the cyber crime police station.

The accused has been using bank accounts of many people. These include 16 debit cards, 12 mobile phones, 22 bank passbooks, 10 bank cheque books, 20 SIM cards,

The police seized 16 ATM cards, 12 mobile phones, 22 bank passbooks, 10 bank check books, 20 SIM cards, a laptop, a passport, a laptop, a passport, Aadhar card and PAN card issued in his name, and other documents from the accused, the release said.
