Odisha Vigilance Arrests Talcher ASI for Taking Bribe

Published on

In yet another case of corruption crackdown, Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dharanidhar Nath of Talcher Police Station in Angul district while he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹3,000.

According to an official press release, ASI Nath, who was acting as the Investigating Officer (IO) in a case, had demanded the bribe from the complainant in exchange for helping him in the case. He even threatened arrest if the bribe was not paid immediately.

Bribe Complaint Leads to Swift Vigilance Action

The complainant, feeling coerced, approached Odisha Vigilance authorities. Acting swiftly, a trap was laid, and ASI Nath was caught red-handed while accepting ₹3,000. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from Nath’s exclusive possession, the release stated.

Searches and Disproportionate Assets Investigation Underway

Following the arrest, simultaneous raids are being conducted at two separate locations linked to ASI Nath to examine if he possesses disproportionate assets (DA).

A case has been registered at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.

This incident adds to the growing number of cases where public servants are being held accountable for misuse of power, as Odisha Vigilance continues its efforts to curb corruption across the state.
