Operation Web: Ukraine Destroys 40 Russian Aircraft in Major Drone Strike Ahead of Peace Talks

Published on

Just hours before scheduled peace talks in Turkey, Ukraine carried out a massive drone operation deep inside Russian territory, destroying over 40 military aircraft in what has been described as a highly complex, long-planned strike.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) revealed that Operation Web, which took 1.5 years to plan, destroyed approximately 34% of Russia’s air missile carrier fleet, causing an estimated $7 billion in damage. The strike reportedly involved 117 drones, many launched from containers disguised as mobile wooden houses, remotely activated when ready.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was said to have personally overseen the operation, which targeted aircraft including A-50, Tu-95, and Tu-22M bombers at airfields in the Irkutsk and Murmansk regions—more than 4,000 kilometers from Ukraine.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the strikes, acknowledging fires and aircraft damage at military bases. Meanwhile, Russia’s top investigative body reported that explosions overnight caused two bridge collapses and train derailments in western Russia, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens. Officials later removed references to “explosions” in public statements, leaving the cause unclear.
