OSSSC RI, ARI, ICDS Exams Cancelled Amid Irregularities; Fresh Prelims to Be Notified

Bhubaneswar: In a major development affecting over 5 lakh aspirants, the Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) has cancelled the RI, ARI, and ICDS Supervisor recruitment exams following allegations of irregularities and legal challenges.

The decision was communicated to the Odisha High Court by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, confirming that the entire recruitment cycle has been annulled.

All Aspirants Declared ‘Passed’ in Prelims Triggers Legal Storm

Controversy erupted after OSSSC declared all candidates as qualified in the preliminary exam, contradicting the original notification that only five times the number of vacancies would be selected for the next stage. This unexpected move triggered a slew of petitions from aspirants, citing violations of recruitment rules.

Odisha High Court Intervenes

Hearing the matter, Justice Biraja Prasanna Satapathy ordered the OSSSC to reinitiate the recruitment process while restricting eligibility only to previously registered candidates. The court also instructed that no fresh applications or additional fees will be required.

A new preliminary exam notification is expected to be issued within 14 days, possibly by August 15, 2025.

Allegations of Malpractice & Student Protests

The recruitment cycle, conducted between September 20 and October 8, 2024, was reportedly marred by widespread irregularities. Several candidates alleged they were financially exploited under false promises of guaranteed selection.

These revelations led to massive protests by student unions across the state, demanding accountability and cancellation of the compromised recruitment drive.

What Happens Next?

  • New Prelims Notification expected by August 15
  • Only existing applicants eligible
  • No new applications or exam fees required
  • OSSSC must ensure transparency and fairness in the revised process

This controversy has shaken public trust in OSSSC’s recruitment mechanism. As the commission prepares to re-conduct the preliminary exam, restoring transparency and fairness will be key to rebuilding confidence among lakhs of aspirants.
