Over 10 Crore Women Screened for Cervical Cancer Under Ayushman Arogya Mandirs: Health Ministry

Published on

New Delhi: In a major milestone for women’s health in India, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that over 10.18 crore women have been screened for cervical cancer under the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs initiative and the National Health Mission (NHM) across the country.

Focus on Women Aged 30–65 Years

As part of the government’s population-based strategy for the screening, prevention, and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), the programme specifically targets women between 30 and 65 years of age. The primary screening method used is Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA), conducted at Sub-Health Centres and Primary Health Centres.

Follow-up for VIA-Positive Cases

The ministry clarified that women who test positive through VIA are referred to higher healthcare centres for further diagnostic evaluations and necessary medical intervention.

Government’s Commitment to Preventive Healthcare

The Health Ministry stated that the screening milestone reflects the government’s strong focus on preventive and comprehensive healthcare, particularly through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which are being established nationwide to deliver accessible and quality health services at the grassroots level.
