‘Panchayat’ Season 4 Review: Fans Call It “Dragged” As Politics Dulls The Charm

Published on

After months of anticipation, ‘Panchayat’ Season 4 premiered on Prime Video on June 24, bringing back fan-favourite characters and the rural setting of Phulera village. However, the latest season has sparked a polarizing response online, with many fans praising the emotional depth, while others express disappointment over its political shift and tonal change.

Panchayat Season 4: A Shift from Humour to Politics

Created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Chandan Kumar, and produced by TVF, Panchayat 4 takes a bolder narrative turn, diving deep into village politics, particularly the local elections that pit Manju Devi against her challenger Kranti Devi.

While the rustic charm and slice-of-life storytelling continue, viewers feel the show has shifted too far into political territory, compromising on the light-hearted comedy that made earlier seasons a delight.

Twitter Review: “Disappointed to the Core”

Early reactions on Twitter range from mild disapproval to stark criticism:

Panchayat Season 4 lost its comic charm & leaned too much into politics. While emotional moments were decent, the signature humor was missing. A few standout scenes, but overall it felt dragged and lacked spark. Had potential, but underwhelming,” wrote one viewer.

Another fan echoed: “Disappointed to the core. I wanted laughter, not legislative drama. It’s still good, but not what I signed up for.”

Though some fans still found the season emotionally rewarding, especially due to earnest performances from Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, and Raghubir Yadav, the absence of humour was a common critique.

The cast remains the series’ strongest suit. Jitendra Kumar returns as Abhishek Tripathi, the overqualified Panchayat secretary, alongside Raghubir Yadav (Pradhan Ji), Neena Gupta (Manju Devi), and Faisal Malik (Prahlad). Their performances remain sincere, but script limitations and slower pacing dilute their impact.

Panchayat Season 4 Verdict: Still Real, But Less Relatable

In summary, ‘Panchayat’ Season 4 feels like a transition phase, trying to blend political commentary with emotional storytelling. While the intent to evolve the plot is commendable, the loss of comedic rhythm and repetitive storytelling makes it less engaging for longtime fans.
