PM Modi launches ‘Pratibha Setu’ for UPSC aspirants missing final merit list in Mann Ki Baat

Published on

New Delhi: In the 125th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘Pratibha Setu’, a dedicated digital platform designed to support Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants who reached the final stages of the exam but missed making it to the merit list.

Calling UPSC one of the toughest competitive examinations in India, PM Modi highlighted the determination, resilience, and inspiring stories of countless candidates. He acknowledged the harsh reality that thousands of aspirants come extremely close to success, but fall short by a narrow margin. These candidates often restart preparation for other exams, incurring both time and financial costs.

Pratibha Setu UPSC platform to support non-recommended candidates

Explaining the initiative, PM Modi said that Pratibha Setu will act as a databank of UPSC candidates who cleared all stages of the Civil Services Exam but were not recommended in the final merit list. The Prime Minister stated that over 10,000 such capable youth are already listed in the database, making them accessible for future career opportunities across various organisations.

Aim to connect aspirants with employment opportunities

According to the government, Pratibha Setu will help private companies, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and other organisations access the profiles of these non-recommended candidates. This ensures that the efforts of hardworking aspirants are recognised, while also giving them a chance to contribute to governance, administration, and other sectors through different avenues.

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh had earlier informed the Rajya Sabha on August 7 that the Pratibha Setu portal is already live and open for registrations by institutions and companies.

This year alone, 50,910 candidates appeared for the UPSC interview round, out of which 33,950 were not selected. The government believes that this huge pool of trained, disciplined, and knowledgeable aspirants should not go untapped. By connecting them with opportunities through Pratibha Setu, the initiative aims to reduce wastage of talent and channel their skills for nation-building.

The announcement of Pratibha Setu drew attention across the country. Union Minister JP Nadda listened to PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat address in Mumbai, while BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar joined the event in New Delhi. Leaders emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of empowering India’s youth with opportunities, even beyond the Civil Services examination.
