PM Modi Slams Opposition Over Criticism of Operation Mahadev’s Timing

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong rebuke in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, targeting the Opposition for questioning the timing of Operation Mahadev—a counter-terror mission in which three Pakistani terrorists, allegedly linked to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, were neutralized.

The Prime Minister emphasized that national security should not become a subject of political debate, asserting that Indian forces act when the moment is right, not when it is politically convenient.

Operation Mahadev Timing: PM Asks, “Should We Wait for Saawan ka Somwar?”

Responding to critics who accused the government of staging the operation for political mileage, PM Modi retorted sharply:

“For weeks, they kept asking, ‘What about the Pahalgam terrorists?’ Now that the forces have acted, they’re questioning the timing. What is wrong with these people? Do they expect us to wait for Saawan ka Somwar to launch an operation named Mahadev?”

His remarks came shortly after Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav questioned the timing of the operation, suggesting that “all parties had shown support when the time was right.” His comment drew flak from the treasury benches and prompted the Prime Minister’s strong response.

Background on Operation Mahadev

Operation Mahadev, carried out recently by Indian security forces, was aimed at eliminating militants believed to be behind the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The successful operation has been hailed by many, though its timing just before a key parliamentary session has drawn skepticism from some opposition quarters.

Despite the criticism, the government maintains that the Operation Mahadev timing was strictly based on intelligence and strategic planning, not political considerations.
