PM Modi to visit Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar and UP on May 29-30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin a two-day visit to four Indian states on Thursday, May 29, to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects valued at over ₹69,000 crore. As part of the lead-up to the first anniversary of his third term, the Prime Minister’s tour will cover Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Modi’s Visit to Sikkim

Kicking off the tour, PM Modi will participate in the event titled “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth” at 11 AM on Thursday. The event commemorates 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood under the theme ‘Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim’, celebrating its heritage, culture, and natural beauty.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will launch and lay foundation stones for several projects, including:

  • A new 500-bed district hospital in Namchi district (worth over ₹750 crore)
  • A passenger ropeway in Sangachoeling, Pelling (Gyalshing district)
  • A statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok

He will also unveil a commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and a stamp to mark the 50th anniversary of the state’s formation.

PM Modi’s Visit to West Bengal

Following his visit to Sikkim, PM Modi will arrive in West Bengal around 2:15 PM on Thursday. Here, he will lay the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts.

Valued at over ₹1,010 crore, the project will:

  • Provide natural gas access to over 2.5 lakh households
  • Supply fuel to more than 100 commercial and industrial units
  • Establish around 19 CNG stations to support cleaner transportation

This initiative is part of the government’s push to extend eco-friendly and economical fuel infrastructure and will create job opportunities in the region.

PM Modi’s Visit to Bihar

Later in the evening, at approximately 5:45 PM, the Prime Minister will reach Patna, Bihar. His engagements there include:

  • Inauguration of Patna Airport’s new passenger terminal (built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore, with the capacity to handle 1 crore passengers annually)
  • Laying the foundation stone for Bihta Airport’s civil enclave (worth ₹1,410 crore)

On Friday, he will launch development projects in Karakat worth over ₹48,520 crore, including:

  • Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-II in Aurangabad district (₹29,930 crore)
  • Major road projects such as:
    • Four-lane Patna–Arrah–Sasaram section (NH-119A)
    • Six-lane Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata highway (NH-319B)
    • Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D)
    • New Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli
    • Patna–Gaya–Dobhi (NH-22, ₹5,520 crore)
    • Elevated highway and road upgrades in Gopalganj on NH–27

PM Modi’s Visit to Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi will:

  • Inaugurate the Kanpur Metro’s Chunniganj to Kanpur Central section, part of a ₹2,120 crore project with 14 stations, including five new underground stops
  • Oversee GT Road widening and strengthening works

He will also lay the foundation for key infrastructure projects in Gautam Buddh Nagar, including:

  • A 220 KV substation in YEIDA’s Sector 28
  • Two 132 KV substations in Ecotech-8 and Ecotech-10 (worth over ₹320 crore)

Additionally, he will distribute cheques and certificates to beneficiaries of schemes like PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, National Livelihood Mission, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

In recent weeks, the Prime Minister has visited states such as Gujarat and Rajasthan, with more visits expected as he approaches the June 9 milestone marking one year into his third consecutive term in office.
