PM Modi Visits Ahmedabad Crash Survivors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital this morning to meet survivors of the tragic Air India plane crash, which claimed 241 lives, including passengers and crew members. During his visit, he met Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor, who is a British national of Indian origin currently undergoing treatment.

Prime Minister Mourns Air India Crash Victims

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, PM Modi expressed the nation’s collective grief. He said, “The country is devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words.” Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the Prime Minister acknowledged that the pain and void left behind will be felt for years to come.

Visit to Crash Site and Review Meeting

PM Modi also visited the crash site near BJ Medical College, where the Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. Describing the scene as deeply saddening, he commended the efforts of officials and emergency teams working tirelessly at the site.

Later, the Prime Minister chaired a high-level review meeting in Ahmedabad to assess ongoing rescue, relief, and investigation efforts.

Personal Loss for PM Modi

The tragedy took a personal toll on the Prime Minister as well, with former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, a close family member, among the deceased.

Identification and Handover of Bodies Underway

According to official sources, the process of post-mortem examinations and identification of victims is ongoing. So far, six bodies have been handed over to their families.

Crash Details

The ill-fated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating on flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed into a residential complex near BJ Medical College seconds after takeoff. The crash claimed 241 lives, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, 1 Canadian, and 12 Air India crew members.
