Rahul Gandhi Calls Puri Stampede a ‘Serious Warning’, Urges Security Overhaul at Mass Events

Published on

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Puri during the Rath Yatra, which claimed three lives and left dozens injured. Terming the incident a “serious warning,” Gandhi called for a complete overhaul of security and crowd management protocols at major public gatherings.

In his statement, the Member of Parliament said, “This tragedy is a grave reminder that crowd control and security preparations for such large-scale events must be handled with utmost seriousness. Safeguarding human lives must be the top priority, and any lapses in responsibility are unacceptable.”

Gandhi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured devotees. He urged the Odisha government to expedite relief and medical assistance, and called upon Congress party workers to step up and provide every possible support to the victims.

“The stampede during Rath Yatra is heart-wrenching. I extend my sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and hope for the quick recovery of those injured. The state government must respond swiftly and effectively. I also appeal to Congress workers to assist all affected,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi’s remarks follow widespread criticism of crowd management during this year’s Jagannath Rath Yatra, which witnessed one of the worst such tragedies in recent memory.
