Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Chori’ Allegations Intensify: EC Failing to Enforce ‘One Man, One Vote’

Published on

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday escalated his vote chori allegations against the Election Commission (EC), accusing it of failing to uphold the Constitutional principle of “one man, one vote.” Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House complex, Gandhi warned, “Abhi picture baki hai”, claiming that irregularities in the voters’ list were being carried out at a “national and systematic” level.

Gandhi said his party would continue to “protect the Constitution” and expose electoral fraud. “There is not just one seat where there is ‘vote chori’; there are many. The EC knows it, and we know it too. Earlier, we didn’t have evidence, now we do,” he asserted.

‘124-Year-Old First Time Voter’ Sparks Political Firestorm

The controversy gained further traction when Gandhi cited the case of Minta Devi, allegedly a 124-year-old first-time voter from Bihar, whose name appeared in the EC’s voter list. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed his remarks, pointing out several cases with fake addresses and family details.

Earlier in the day, INDIA bloc MPs staged a protest in Parliament against the EC’s voter roll revision in Bihar. Many wore white T-shirts emblazoned with Minta Devi’s photo, the words “124 Not Out”, and slogans demanding a rollback of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Opposition MPs Target EC Over ‘Vote Chori Allegations’

Leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Derek O’Brien, TR Baalu, and Supriya Sule joined the protest. Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused the EC under Rajeev Kumar and Gyanesh Kumar of functioning as a “department of the BJP.”

Parliament has seen repeated disruptions since July 21 over the Bihar SIR issue, with little business conducted. On Monday, a protest march led by Rahul Gandhi, Kharge, and Sharad Pawar towards the EC office was stopped midway by police, leading to brief detentions amid high drama.
