Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025: PM Modi Says Nehru Stopped Sardar Patel From Uniting Entire Kashmir With India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas near the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel wanted to unite the entire Kashmir with India just like he did with other princely states, but then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not allow it. The Prime Minister paid floral tributes to the Iron Man of India and emphasized Patel’s unmatched contribution to national unity.

Mr. Modi said, “Sardar Patel believed that one should not waste time writing history but should work hard to create history. He wanted to merge the entire Kashmir with India, but Nehru ji stopped his wish from being fulfilled. Kashmir was divided, given a separate Constitution and a separate flag, and the country suffered for decades due to Congress’ mistake.”

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025 Highlights Sardar Patel’s Role in Uniting India

While speaking at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025 parade, PM Modi recalled how Sardar Patel played a monumental role in integrating more than 550 princely states into the Indian Union after independence. “The idea of ‘One India, Excellent India’ was central to Sardar Patel’s vision. His decisions and policies created new history and strengthened the foundation of the nation,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that Patel’s legacy is a reminder that national service is the highest form of happiness. “Sardar Patel once remarked that his greatest joy came from serving the nation. I urge every citizen to find their joy in serving the motherland,” he said.

Women-Led Parade Marks Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025

A major highlight of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025 celebrations was the all-women-led parade. Contingents from the BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, SSB, and police forces from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Assam, Tripura, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh participated.

Women officers commanded all contingents, symbolizing the empowerment of women in India’s security forces. A contingent of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) also took part in the parade, showcasing discipline, strength, and unity.

Unity in Diversity Showcased Through Cultural Performances

This year’s Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025 parade featured a ‘Republic Day-style’ march with 10 thematic tableaux from NSG, NDRF, and states like Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry. The tableaux depicted the theme “Unity in Diversity,” representing India’s cultural richness and social harmony.

Over 900 artists performed traditional and classical dances from different parts of India, reflecting the country’s cultural unity. The performances celebrated India’s diversity while reinforcing the spirit of oneness envisioned by Sardar Patel.

Gallantry Honours and Aerial Display Under Operation Surya Kiran

PM Modi also saluted the bravery of India’s armed and paramilitary forces. The parade honored five Shaurya Chakra awardees from the CRPF and 16 gallantry medal winners from the BSF for their courage in anti-Naxal and counter-terror operations.

The event also included a spectacular fly-past by the Indian Air Force under Operation Surya Kiran, leaving spectators in awe. The BSF showcased Indian-bred dogs like Rampur Hounds, Gujarat Police’s horse unit, Assam Police’s motorcycle daredevil team, and the iconic BSF camel contingent with a camel-mounted band.

PM Modi’s Message on National Unity

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said, “Sardar Patel’s vision of unity continues to guide India’s path toward strength and self-reliance. On this Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025, let us pledge to keep India united in thought, spirit, and action.”
