KATAKA: Kataka Sadar MLA and Ravenshaw University Senate Member Prakash Chandra Sethi has urged Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy to take action against the university’s Head of the Department of Education and Chief Warden, Dr. Sudarshan Mishra, over alleged misconduct during a meeting held to resolve the ongoing Ravenshaw University protest.

In a letter dated August 4, Sethi claimed the senior university official behaved in an inappropriate and disrespectful manner while discussions were underway in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor.

Ravenshaw University Protest Sparks Fresh Controversy

The meeting was convened to find a solution to the indefinite hunger strike launched by students of the university’s East Hostel.

The protesting students have been demanding action against the Deputy Warden, alleging harassment.

According to Sethi, he attended the meeting both as a Senate Member of Ravenshaw University and as the elected representative of the Kataka Sadar Assembly constituency to help facilitate an amicable resolution.

MLA Alleges Misconduct During Meeting

In his letter, the MLA alleged that while he was offering suggestions during the discussions, Dr. Mishra repeatedly interrupted him, engaged in arguments and displayed conduct unbecoming of a senior academic administrator.

Sethi claimed the professor’s behaviour undermined the dignity of an elected public representative and described the incident as an act of “gross misconduct.”

He has requested the Speaker to initiate appropriate action and issue necessary directions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Student Protest Continues

The controversy comes amid continuing unrest on the Ravenshaw University campus, where students have been protesting against the Deputy Warden over allegations of harassment.

The university administration is yet to announce a resolution to the protest, while the MLA’s complaint has added a new dimension to the ongoing campus dispute.
