Ravindra Narayan Ravi Sworn in as West Bengal Governor After Bose Resignation

Ravi’s appointment follows the sudden resignation of C. V. Ananda Bose.

After taking the oath, the new Governor interacted with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other dignitaries present at the event.

The data suggests that gubernatorial changes often occur quickly when a vacancy arises in a constitutional office.

Former Tamil Nadu Governor Takes Charge in Kolkata

Before assuming the new role, Ravi had been serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.

During his tenure there, he was frequently involved in disagreements with the state’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government led by M. K. Stalin.

Several disputes arose between the Governor’s office and the state government, particularly regarding the approval of bills passed by the state assembly.

At one stage, the DMK government had even approached Droupadi Murmu seeking his removal from the gubernatorial position.

Political Reactions After Bose’s Resignation

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier expressed concern about the sudden resignation of Bose.

Soon after Ravi’s appointment was announced, Banerjee said she was “shocked and deeply concerned” about the abrupt development.

She also stated that she was not aware of the reasons behind Bose’s decision and suggested that political pressure from the union government could not be ruled out given the evolving political situation in the state.

New Phase in West Bengal’s Constitutional Leadership

With Ravi taking charge, West Bengal now has a new constitutional head responsible for overseeing the functioning of the state government and maintaining constitutional processes.

Observers say the relationship between the Governor’s office and the state government will be closely watched, particularly as the state moves toward upcoming political and administrative milestones.
