RCB Marketing Head, DNA Managers Arrested in Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede

Published on

In connection with the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory celebrations last Wednesday, the Karnataka State Police have arrested RCB cricket team Marketing Head Nikhil Sosale and DNA Entertainment Private Limited managers Sunil Mathew and Kiran Kumar.

The arrests follow an official Magisterial, Judicial, and CID enquiry ordered by the state government into the incident. The stampede, which occurred amid massive crowd mismanagement, claimed the lives of 11 people and left many injured.

As part of the fallout, the government has also suspended several senior police officers, including Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayanand, citing failure to prevent the disaster despite prior warnings. Seemant Kumar Singh has now been appointed as the new Bengaluru Police Commissioner and took charge today.

At a joint press conference in Bengaluru, Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra, and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka launched a scathing attack on the ruling government. They alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar ignored repeated warnings from police regarding the risks of holding a public celebration and are thus directly responsible for the deaths.

“The government is scapegoating police officers for its own lapses,” said H D Kumaraswamy, demanding the resignation of both CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM Shivakumar.

Stampede Trigger and Reaction

The stampede was triggered during the RCB IPL 2025 victory celebration that drew thousands of fans to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, far exceeding the expected turnout. Insufficient crowd control and poor ticketing arrangements, handled by DNA Entertainment and RCB’s marketing division, were cited as major factors.

This is the first time such a tragic incident has occurred during an IPL team celebration, and it has raised serious questions about public event management, accountability, and political oversight in Karnataka.
