Saurabh Bharadwaj Alleges BJP-Led Delhi Government Dismantling “Fake Yamuna” Project

Published on

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has accused the BJP-led Delhi government of secretly dismantling what he termed a Fake Yamuna project at the city’s Vasudev Ghat. The allegation comes shortly after the conclusion of the Chhath Puja festivities, where river cleanliness and water management were key public concerns.

Saurabh Bharadwaj Questions Legality of Fake Yamuna Project

Bharadwaj claimed that workers were seen removing a water pipeline that his party had earlier flagged as an illegal connection. According to him, the pipeline supplied filtered water to a section of the ghat, creating a misleading image of a clean Yamuna for devotees. He alleged that the connection was drawn from the main line of the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant, which he described as a clear violation of norms.

AAP Seeks Accountability from Authorities over Fake Yamuna Project

Raising multiple questions, the AAP leader demanded clarity from the Delhi Jal Board and the Delhi government. He asked who approved the illegal water connection, whether the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had made a formal request, which contractor executed the project, and if any tendering process had been followed. Bharadwaj said the absence of transparency suggested administrative complicity and deliberate misrepresentation before the public.

Political Row Intensifies after Chhath Puja

Bharadwaj displayed samples of sludge and contaminated water from the actual Yamuna, claiming it was filled with sewage and human waste, while accusing the government of stage-managing a temporary clean-water setup for the festival. The Fake Yamuna project has now become a new flashpoint in the ongoing political tussle between the AAP and the BJP over the condition of the riverfront during Chhath Puja.
