Shubman Gill Says Early Wickets Put India on Back Foot in Perth ODI Loss
Perth: India captain Shubman Gill admitted that the early collapse in the powerplay overs proved costly for his side in the rain-affected first ODI against Australia at Perth Stadium. India lost three wickets inside the first six overs, forcing the team into a defensive mode as they struggled to build momentum and post a competitive total.

Speaking after the seven-wicket defeat, Shubman Gill said the early wickets shifted the pressure entirely onto India. “There are a lot of learnings from this game and many positives as well. We were defending 130 and took the game pretty deep. We were very satisfied with that. It’s always a challenge to recover from such a start, but the team showed resilience and fought hard until the very end,” Gill said.

Despite the loss, the Indian skipper took a moment to thank the fans for their unwavering support. “We are very fortunate. The fans turned up in huge numbers and hopefully they’ll be able to cheer us on at Adelaide as well. Their support gives the players an extra boost, especially in challenging conditions,” Gill added.
Mitchell Marsh Praises Team Effort and Crowd Support in Perth ODI
Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh, who was named Player of the Match, also praised his team and the spectators for their patience amid the rain interruptions. “The weather played its part today. Big thanks to all the fans that stuck around. I know these days can be really frustrating, but it’s nice to get a win. It’s always nice to win at home. I love playing for Australia,” Marsh said.
Philippe’s Knock and Australia’s Young Guns Impress Marsh
Commenting on the chase, Marsh said, “It was swinging around a little bit. We knew that was going to be the case for both teams, so it was a challenge to get through there. Proud of the way our young guys came out and took the game on.” He singled out Josh Philippe for praise, saying, “He came out and made it look very easy. It’s fun to get these young guys coming in. They just need to have fun and enjoy it.”
India will now look to bounce back in the second ODI in Adelaide as Australia lead the three-match series 1-0.
