Stock Market Today: On Thursday, Indian stock markets witnessed a mixed session as investor sentiment remained cautious. A total of 73 stocks hit their 52-week highs, including notable names such as AU Small Finance Bank Ltd, Muthoot Finance Ltd, Steel Strips Wheels Ltd, S Chand and Company Ltd, Indiabulls Enterprises Ltd, and GRM Overseas Ltd.
In contrast, 79 stocks reached 52-week lows, with key decliners being Easy Trip Planners Ltd, Vodafone Idea Ltd, Protean eGov Technologies Ltd, Ola Electric Mobility Ltd, Music Broadcast Ltd, SpiceJet Ltd, and Schloss Bangalore Ltd.
Nifty 50 and Sensex Reflect Weak Sentiment
The Nifty 50 index slipped 0.08%, closing at 24,793.25, while the BSE Sensex declined 0.1% to settle at 81,361.87. The broader market underperformed, weighed down by persistent selling in mid- and small-cap stocks, even as large-cap stocks remained relatively stable.
The Indian equity indices remained rangebound with a negative bias, largely due to rising global tensions—particularly in the Middle East—and concerns about a more hawkish stance by the US Federal Reserve.
Fed’s decision to maintain interest rates, coupled with signals of persistent inflation and slowing economic growth, had a dampening effect on IT and software export-oriented stocks.
Technical View: Nifty 50 Outlook Remains Bearish
The Nifty 50 experienced a dull monthly expiry, trading in a tight range throughout the session—signaling market indecision ahead of any significant movement.
- Hourly Chart: Index continues to trade below the 200-Day Moving Average (DMA), indicating weakness.
- Daily Chart: Slipped below the 21-Exponential Moving Average (EMA), confirming a bearish outlook.
- Resistance: 24,850
- Support: 24,550
Until the index crosses 24,850, the negative trend is expected to persist, with investors closely tracking global cues and crude oil prices.
