Rayagada: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited Rayagada district on Monday and inaugurated the Subhadra Shakti Mela Rayagada, a major initiative showcasing women empowerment and self-help group entrepreneurship.
The mela is being organised at the GIACR ground from February 2 to February 8, 2026, drawing large participation from women across the district.
Rayagada Emerging as a Model for Women Empowerment
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi praised Rayagada’s progress in empowering women through self-help groups.
Officials said more than 1.52 lakh women and girls are linked with 12,783 SHGs, significantly improving livelihoods and economic opportunities in the region.
CM Majhi Launches 109 Projects Worth ₹600 Crore
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of 109 development projects valued at over ₹600 crore, providing a fresh boost to Rayagada’s infrastructure growth.
These included:
- 22 completed projects worth ₹238 crore
- Foundation stones for 87 new projects worth ₹366 crore
- Allocation of ₹37 crore for Majhighariani temple development
The Chief Minister said these projects will accelerate Rayagada’s overall development journey.
Focus on Education, Healthcare and Sports Infrastructure
CM Majhi announced several new measures for district-wide progress, including:
- Indoor stadiums in every block
- Upgraded education and transport facilities
- Stronger healthcare systems
He also noted that a medical college in Rayagada is awaiting approval from the government.
Nearly ₹200 Crore Loans Provided to SHGs This Year
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s financial support to women’s groups in Rayagada.
In the current financial year:
- Loans worth ₹200 crore were disbursed to 4,217 SHGs
- ₹14 crore revolving fund support reached 9,335 SHGs
- ₹53.14 crore was provided to 164 GPLFs
- Additional loans of ₹37.55 crore were extended to 4,195 SHGs
These funds aim to strengthen women-led businesses and financial independence.
Union Budget Push for Women and Children
The CM linked Odisha’s efforts with the Union Budget 2026-27, which allocates nearly ₹5 lakh crore for women and children.
The budget also proposes self-help entrepreneur marts to support women’s enterprises at the national level.
Rayagada’s Tribal Development Gets Major Boost
Rayagada, known for its tribal heritage and natural beauty, will benefit from Odisha’s budget allocation of ₹68,881 crore aimed at empowering tribal communities through:
- Education
- Health services
- Livelihood expansion
The CM said tribal development remains a priority for inclusive growth.
Industrial Investments to Transform Rayagada
Majhi pointed to upcoming investments from major companies such as:
- Hindalco
- Vedanta
- Utkal Alumina
These projects are expected to transform Rayagada into a modern industrial hub, generating jobs and economic expansion.
He directed that 80% of jobs in new industries should be reserved for local youth, stressing that local employment is essential for prosperity.
During the event, the Chief Minister honoured outstanding women-led SHGs with awards and cash prizes.
The top three groups across multiple categories were recognised for performance, innovation and impact.
Subhadra Fair Showcases Entrepreneurship and Culture
The mela features:
- Over 120 stalls displaying SHG products
- Traditional art, textiles, handicrafts and eco-friendly goods
- A popular Food Court serving millet-based dishes and regional delicacies
- Cultural performances of music and dance every evening
CM Majhi emphasised that the fair plays a key role in expanding market connectivity and building sustainable income opportunities for women.
