Telangana Chemical Factory Blast: Death Toll Rises to 42, CM Revanth Reddy to Visit Site

Published on

The death toll in the tragic blast at the Sigachi Chemical Industry in Pashamylaram, Telangana, has risen to 42 as rescue teams recovered additional bodies from under the debris on Tuesday. The explosion, which occurred on Monday, initially claimed 12 lives by nightfall. The toll increased to 34 by Tuesday morning and has now gone up further.

District Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj confirmed to PTI that the final phase of the rescue mission is ongoing, with more bodies being discovered as rubble is cleared.

CM Revanth Reddy to Visit Blast Site

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to visit the accident site on Tuesday to assess the situation and meet with the victims’ families and rescue personnel.

Explosion Details and Eyewitness Accounts

The explosion, suspected to have originated from a reactor malfunction, triggered a massive blast and subsequent fire at the factory. State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said around 90 employees were inside the premises at the time of the incident.

“The explosion was so powerful that it destroyed the entire industrial shed. Some workers were thrown nearly 100 metres by the force of the blast,” he stated, citing eyewitness accounts.

Rescue and Emergency Response

The rescue operation is being carried out by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), HYDRAA, and Telangana Fire and Disaster Response services. So far, at least 10 bodies were recovered during initial firefighting efforts.

Cause Under Investigation

Although the exact cause is still unknown, preliminary reports suggest a chemical reaction inside the reactor may have led to the deadly explosion.

Governor Offers Condolences and Support

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Governor has spoken with M. Dan Kishore, Principal Secretary of Labour, Employment Training, and Factories (LETF), directing full support and assistance to the victims.
