Toxic Liquor Kills Two in Bhubaneswar, Wine Shop Sealed by Authorities

Published on

Bhubaneswar: Two individuals have lost their lives allegedly after drinking toxic liquor purchased from a shop in the Laxmipur area of Bhubaneswar. The incident has led to swift action from the excise department, which sealed the wine shop involved.

The victims, identified as Biswajit Beura and Santhosh Nayak from the Laxmisagar locality, had consumed liquor with five others during a feast five days ago. Soon after, they all experienced severe stomach pain and a burning sensation in their chests, prompting hospitalisation.

As their condition worsened, they were shifted to the ICU. Santhosh succumbed shortly after admission, while Biswajit passed away today during treatment.

Enraged by the deaths, local residents and family members staged a protest in front of the liquor shop. They demanded strict action against the owner and staff for allegedly selling adulterated alcohol, and called for the permanent closure of the shop. Protesters also urged the government to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and free medical care to the other victims.

In response, a joint team led by the Khurda Excise SP and Laxmisagar Police arrived at the scene and sealed the liquor outlet. Samples have been collected for testing to verify claims of spurious liquor. As of now, there has been no official statement from the shop owner or excise authorities.
