Vice Presidential Election 2025: EC Issues Notification, Voting on September 9

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Thursday released the official notification for the Vice Presidential Election 2025, marking the beginning of the nomination process. Candidates can file their nominations until August 21, while the election will be conducted on September 9.

The election has been necessitated by the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of Vice President last month. This will be the 17th Vice Presidential election in India’s constitutional history.

Vice Presidential Election 2025: Key Dates and Electoral Process

As outlined in the official notification, the Vice Presidential Election 2025 will follow this schedule:

  • Last Date for Filing Nominations: August 21
  • Scrutiny of Nominations: August 22
  • Last Date for Withdrawal: August 25
  • Polling & Counting of Votes: September 9

The Vice President is elected by an Electoral College comprising members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The counting of votes will be held on the same day as polling.

With the process now underway, political parties are expected to announce their candidates soon for the crucial constitutional post.
