Waqf Amendment Bill: Government To Table Waqf Bill In Lok Sabha For Discussion Today

The Indian government is set to introduce the Waqf Amendment Bill for deliberation and approval in the Lok Sabha today. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who also oversees the Ministry of Minority Affairs, announced that eight hours have been allocated for discussions on the bill.

Speaking to the media at Parliament House, Rijiju mentioned that during the Business Advisory Committee meeting, it was agreed that discussion time could be extended based on the House’s consensus. He also assured that the government is prepared to address all concerns regarding the bill. Rijiju further claimed that opposition parties oppose the bill due to appeasement politics. He emphasized that the government is committed to a transparent and inclusive debate, ensuring participation from MPs across all parties.

BJP and NDA Allies Issue Whips, Opposition Plans Strategy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a whip instructing all its MPs to be present in Lok Sabha. Similarly, NDA allies JD(U) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have directed their MPs to support the government during the discussion.

Meanwhile, the Congress has also issued a whip mandating the presence of its MPs in the House. The INDIA bloc Floor leaders convened a meeting in New Delhi yesterday to strategize their approach toward the Waqf Amendment Bill. Key leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Professor Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Kalyan Banerjee (TMC), T. R. Baalu (DMK), and Sanjay Singh (Aam Aadmi Party), participated in the discussions.
