7 Dead in Kedarnath Helicopter Crash; AAIB to Probe, Flights Suspended for Safety Review

Published on

A tragic helicopter crash near the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand early this morning has claimed the lives of all seven people on board — six passengers and one crew member. The chopper was en route from Kedarnath to Guptkashi when it crashed near Gaurikund, shortly after taking off at 5:19 AM.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been assigned to conduct a detailed probe into the incident. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched enhanced surveillance measures and already curtailed helicopter operations in the Char Dham region as a precaution.

In response to the crash, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held an emergency meeting with top aviation officials including the Secretary (Civil Aviation) and DGCA representatives. It was decided that all charter and shuttle helicopter services in the area will remain suspended until further notice.

To reinforce safety, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) will conduct a comprehensive operational review involving all aviation operators and pilots. A dedicated Command-and-Control Room is also being established to monitor flight activity in real time and respond swiftly to any emerging risks.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has emphasized that aviation safety is paramount, warning all operators to adhere strictly to weather-related and operational protocols. The DGCA has been tasked with ensuring full compliance and strict discipline in flight operations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting human lives.
