India and Fiji Reaffirm Zero Tolerance Towards Terrorism, Strengthen Bilateral Ties
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Fiji Sitiveni Rabuka have reiterated zero tolerance towards terrorism, rejecting double standards on the issue. During their bilateral talks in New Delhi, both leaders strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The leaders also denounced the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in April this year, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. Both sides underlined the urgent need to counter radicalization, combat terror financing, and prevent the misuse of emerging technologies for terrorist activities.
Strengthening India–Fiji Cooperation Across Sectors
Briefing the media, Secretary (South) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Neena Malhotra, said the two Prime Ministers witnessed the exchange of nine bilateral documents and MoUs.
The wide-ranging talks covered:
- Political cooperation and high-level engagements
- Trade, agriculture, and mobility partnerships
- Education and healthcare initiatives
- Defence and capacity building projects
- Strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Fiji
Commitment to Climate Action and Sustainable Development
Both leaders reaffirmed their joint commitment to climate action, resilience building, and sustainable development. This cooperation aligns with India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
They also agreed to promote biofuels as a sustainable energy solution under the Global Biofuels Alliance, furthering clean energy cooperation.
Enhancing Defence and Maritime Security
Highlighting the importance of shared regional interests, India and Fiji reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence and maritime security ties.
Key focus areas included:
- Defence collaboration and training
- Enhancing maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific
- Supporting a free, open, inclusive, and secure Indo-Pacific region
The two leaders emphasized that their cooperation will contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
India–Fiji Relations: A Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Rabuka expressed satisfaction over the ongoing India–Fiji defence collaboration and pledged to further enhance ties. They underlined the need for collective efforts to promote security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
With this partnership, both nations have strengthened their resolve against terrorism and laid a roadmap for deeper economic, defence, and sustainable development cooperation.
