India Crush Nepal 5-0 to Clinch SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2025 Title
New Delhi: India’s dominance in South Asian football reached new heights as the U-17 Women’s National Team thrashed Nepal 5-0 at the Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, to lift the SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2025 with a match to spare.
The Young Tigresses led 3-0 at half-time and never looked back, securing their fifth straight win in the tournament, with 27 goals scored and none conceded.
Match Highlights
- Nira Chanu Longjam (5’) opened the scoring with a clean strike from a set-piece.
- Pearl Fernandes (15’, 43’) netted twice, showing fine composure inside the box.
- Divyani Linda (79’, 90+2’) scored a late brace to seal the emphatic win.
India’s attacking flair was on full display, with relentless pressing and sharp movements pinning Nepal inside their own half. Goalkeeper Munni had little to do as India dominated possession and territory.
Title Secured
The victory pushed India to 15 points from five matches, giving them an unassailable lead at the top. Earlier, Bangladesh’s 1-1 draw against Bhutan ensured that India clinched the title regardless of their final match.
AIFF Statement
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) praised the team’s clinical performance, noting that the result “once again stamped India’s authority in South Asia.”
The AIFF added:
- “The floodgates opened early as Nira Chanu set the tone.”
- “India continued piling on pressure with fluid interchanges in attack.”
- “Divyani Linda rose to the occasion late in the game, capitalizing on crosses to finish the rout.”
Looking Ahead
With the trophy secured, India will play their last group-stage match against Bangladesh on August 31. Initially expected to be a title-decider, the clash will now serve as an opportunity for the Young Tigresses to finish the championship unbeaten.
